The Feast of Saint Barbara has been celebrated in the Hunter Valley in December every year since 1981. The venue for the celebration was originally based at the Pelton Colliery office and in following years at a German restaurant in the Pokolbin region of the Hunter Valley in NSW.
Long term attendees were enthusiastic about the celebration and keen to ensure that the annual celebration continues. They were of the view that we had outgrown the capacity of previous venues to cater for the function due to the rising number of attendees. A new format was required if we were to continue its success and ensure the longevity of the annual event.
To this end we have formed an incorporated association called the Friends of Saint Barbara. The principal aim of the association is for interested people in and associated with the mining industry to share experiences and enjoy the companionship of others over lunch every year on the day of the celebration of Saint Barbara.
The luncheon will generally be held in the Hunter Valley and a suitable venue will be chosen by the Committee with regard to the number of participants, etc.
We look forward to your acceptance and participation in this annual event.
